In the Digital Economy, e-commerce brings some new technology and new capabilities to business, but the fundamental business problems are those that merchants have faced for hundred or even for thousands of years: Merchants must have something to sell, make it known to potential buyers, accept payment deliver the goods or services, provide appropriate service after the sale.
E-Commerce is not only for big companies. It is the great
equalizer of all enterprises. The Micro, Small to Medium sized Enterprises (MSMEs) should consider e-commerce and expand their market reach. It is imperative that
MSMEs should engage on e-commerce. With the advent of cross-border trading,
international and intra-regional trade will increase exponentially.
Now a days, It is vital that micro, small to medium enterprises to go
online, and automate their business to compete with international brands. Those
with manual processes that have slow, redundant, unreliable, inefficient
approach to business will be left behind.
Enterprises who engage in selling of goods and services to
the global market, can utilize the Internet as a medium which have less human
intervention, but are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week that can accommodate
any customer regardless of their time zones and distance.
As of 2016, Indonesia is commonly thought of as Southeast
Asia’s largest market as it contributes to 40% of the region’s economic output,
has the largest population in the region and endorsed as the ideal cash cow for
many businesses. However, in the recent study conducted by Alpha-Beta and
Nielsen, Indonesia does not dominate the
largest consumer markets for items like shampoo, soft drinks and detergent but
instead, Philippines dominates these
consumer demands in the region (cigarettes, beer, chocolate, diapers,
instant noodles, vitamins, moisturizer, etc.). This is an opportunity for our
MSMEs to sell in a greater reach.
